Places Of Mind: A Life Of Edward Said
Synopsis
Places of Mind: The Life of Edward Said is a magisterial biography of one of the twentieth century's most important intellectuals. Edward Said was a Palestinian-American literary critic, theorist, and political activist whose work on Orientalism, postcolonialism, and the Middle East helped to shape our understanding of these complex topics.
Robert Fisk, the acclaimed Middle East correspondent for The Independent, has written a riveting account of Said's life and work. Fisk draws on extensive interviews with Said's family, friends, and colleagues, as well as on Said's own writings, to create a portrait of a brilliant and passionate man who was also a deeply flawed and contradictory figure.
Places of Mind is a must-read for anyone interested in the life and work of Edward Said, or in the history of the Middle East in the twentieth century.
