In the war-torn city of Mosul, one man risked his life to save the animals of the city's zoo. This is his incredible story.

Mohammed Allawi was the zookeeper at Mosul Zoo for over 20 years. When the war came to Mosul in 2014, Allawi refused to leave the animals behind. He stayed at the zoo, caring for the animals and protecting them from the fighting.

The conditions at the zoo were horrific. The animals were starving and sick, and the zoo was under constant bombardment. But Allawi never gave up on the animals. He scavenged for food and water, and he risked his life to get the animals to safety.

In 2017, Allawi was finally able to evacuate the animals from Mosul. He and a team of volunteers drove the animals to a new home at the Baghdad Zoo. The animals were finally safe, but Allawi's work was not yet done.

Allawi is now working to rebuild Mosul Zoo. He wants to create a place where the people of Mosul can come to learn about animals and conservation. He also wants to create a place where the animals of Mosul can live in peace.

Allawi's story is an inspiring one. It is a story of hope and resilience. It is a story of one man's determination to make a difference in the world.

The Animals of Mosul Zoo

The Mosul Zoo was home to a variety of animals, including lions, tigers, bears, monkeys, and birds. When the war came to Mosul, many of the animals were killed or died from starvation and disease. But Allawi was able to save many of the animals, including a lion named Simba, a tiger named Zara, and a bear named Luna.

The animals of Mosul Zoo are now living in safety at the Baghdad Zoo. They are being cared for by a team of veterinarians and zookeepers. The animals are slowly recovering from the trauma of the war, and they are beginning to enjoy their new home.

The Future of Mosul Zoo

Allawi is working to rebuild Mosul Zoo. He wants to create a place where the people of Mosul can come to learn about animals and conservation. He also wants to create a place where the animals of Mosul can live in peace.

The rebuilding of Mosul Zoo is a challenging task, but Allawi is determined to make it a success. He has already raised funds to build new enclosures for the animals, and he is working to train a new team of zookeepers.

Allawi hopes that Mosul Zoo will one day be a symbol of hope and renewal for the city of Mosul. He wants the zoo to be a place where people can come to learn about animals and conservation, and a place where the animals of Mosul can live in peace.

How You Can Help

You can help Allawi rebuild Mosul Zoo by donating to his GoFundMe campaign. You can also help by spreading the word about his story and by visiting the zoo once it is rebuilt.

Together, we can help Allawi create a place where the people of Mosul can come to learn about animals and conservation, and a place where the animals of Mosul can live in peace.
